| Car and pickup tires always seem to get a rock in 'em making repair questionable/unsafe while there is still a bit of tread on them.
Or a belt slips and tire gets a bulge, off they come. Very seldom does a car or pickup tire run bald enough to "see the air" in them for me.
With increasing costs, risk of downtime at the wrong time, etc, I would agree with you that York should replace them now with radials.
FWIW, I've been waiting for a tire failure for several years on a couple tractors. 18.4x38 Armstrongs look simply horrible (all the famous Armstrong cracks/tread seperation) They were pretty decent looking tires when I bought the tractor in 1990. Lots of highway running has them down to about 25% tread.
I've got a pair of 1969 vintage 16.9x30 Co-ops still going. They look worse than the Armstrongs.
The 38s will likely be replaced by radials and leave the fluid out. I might even put radials on the FMD if they are priced competitively with bias when the time comes. | |
