Subject: RE: Off-topic........Barn repair

I had a similar problem with my dairy barn and I pulled out the old cement and backfilled it with small clear stone, 3/4-1" so it will not settle later on. I had a stationary TMR mixer just inside the door that I dumped into with a loader or skid loader and it held up fine. My barn was built in the late 1800's also. Usually what causes the approach to sink and crack is the wall moves in slightly over time which leaves a void underneath the approach and or animals undermine the sub surface and the cement sinks/cracks. I usually was disappointed when I laid new cement over bad without replacing/packing the sub surface.
