My opinion is yes, but not as much as years past. As posted above, rowed beans pod lower and cutter bar loss could be higher - now today, land rollers help in this by packing the ground and rocks, which allow headers to scalp the ground very closely and headers/cutterbars are much improved over those of years past. Short beans don't cut / feed as nicely as taller ones, so by drilling them or narrower rows or compitition, they tend to grow taller - Soil type makes a difference along with moisture - lighter (sands/loams) are problematic compared to heavy soils that retain moisture better / longer (taller plants). No right answer, except it depends on several factors. . . . .
