Subject: Surge brakes on a semi trailer? (off road only)

Hi. Just out looking at our nursery trailer which is a 27 or 29' old semi trailer I yank around in the mud with nursery plants one it. I got to wondering if I could use it for hauling grass seed to the bins with as a gravity wagon. I have a JD 4840 free at that time of year, and was wondering if I could remove the air cans and put any sort of hydraulic actuator in its place to act as a surge brake system. ? I dont want to put air on the tractor though I realize it is far supperior to fluid.

My biggest hang up is I just dont want to deal with brake controls in the tractor cause it would make that tractor the sole power plant for the trailer. If I had surge type brakes, I could use any tractor.

I recently aquired this little trailer frame for the nursery to somewhat take the place of the semi unit. It has air over hydraulic brakes and even has a right and left hand operated park brake setup. Thanks.
