Subject: RE: Advantages/disadvantages of a frame type end dump

Hershey, PA
I have a 29 footer just like the one pictured and also a 34 footer with a full frame. The advantage of the full frame is the stability when dumping. If you dump anywhere that is not level or your load hangs up on one side, the frame type will keep you upright when a frameless will lay over. Not a concern when dumping grain into a pit but if hauling silage or dirt you can get into trouble fast! The disadvantage of the frame is the higher unladen weight and frame to drive tire clearance when going on off road uneven terrain. I think the best solution for a farmer is an aluminum full frame. If you are in an area with a flat landscape I would think a frameless will be fine. A 26 foot Fruehauf like the one pictured will only hold maybe 650 bushels without extensions. I put 2 foot high extensions on mine. You can get 950 bushels on it but on winding back roads it feels a little top heavy. If all your roads are straight that will not be a concern.
