It all depends on what you want, the duramax is a good motor very snappy and quieter than a 7.3, you get a 7.3 powerstroke with a stick behind it and youve got a tough truck that will last a LONG time. I have a 99 7.3 and its a great truck. Just turned 150k and still running beautiful, it has an automatic I dont pull a whole lot with it but have pulled our 90xt case with it a few times. If I was gunna pull a lot with it though I would recommend a manual they pull better and last longer. Just my .02
