Wheatley, Arkansas | The study might be a little biased, I think Mississippi State did a comparison that showed the OBMB pickers to be fractionally more expensive to run than conventional pickers, however it is hard to put a cost on the lack of skilled labor for the conventional system.
Another point of discussion has been the effectiveness of the module building system on the Red picker when you get into 1250+ pound cotton. Some of the data I've seen shows that the red picker has to slow down ground speed proportionate to cotton yield. Reports were that in 3-3.5 bale cotton the red picker really had to creep.
The green picker runs non-stop from bale to bale where the red picker has to stop to unload its module, another possible drawback to the red system.
All of this is from reading only, I haven't run either one.
