Subject: Re: Raven Sidekick and auto swath

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
JAL1975 -

You would have a couple of choices which may seem confusing.

You can use the Insight with a Direct Command Liquid module to run the carrier and use an Ag Leader App Rate Module to "talk" serially to a Raven Sidekick console which is running the Injection pump.

This communication is via a 9 pin computer cable between the App Rate Module and the Sidekick console. This communication is two way - at times the Insight is telling the Sidekick what rate to apply and at other times the Sidekick is telling the Insight what it is doing for logging purposes. Manual or Map based VR to the Sidekick is possible with this setup.

The boom output from the LCM would control the ON/OFF valves thus making Autoswath possible. The boom output signal from the various booms would also need to go into the Sidekick 16 Pin connector to give the Sidekick Boom Sense so that it would know which booms are ON at any given time so that it can run the Injection pump at the correct speed.

The Insight will create onscreen maps of both products and a coverage map. These maps can later be processed by SMS or other appropriate software on a PC. An Application Report can also be created on the Insight which is in the .pdf format. The Application Report would have a map of each product and one or many Summary Pages. The rate of the carrier and the rate of the Sidekick can both be controlled on the Insight screen. This is a very workable solution and has been available for some time.

The other choice would be to not use a Raven console at all. The carrier would be controlled by the Insight and an LCM as above but the Injection pump would be run by the recently released Direct Injection Module. This module will run the Raven Injection pump without the use of the Sidekick console. Again maps of both products are available onscreen on the Insight. Again the .pdf Applicaton Report will show both products all with a Summary.

So which is the best way to go? The end results are very similiar. If you already have a Sidekick console you may as well use it but then you need the App Rate module for the Insight (which can be used elsewhere for other purposes). On the other hand the Sidekick console could be left out (reducing cab clutter) if the Direct Injection module were used to run the pump. If you are buying a system from scratch leaving the Sidekick console out of the picture doesn't really save you much due to the pricing structure.

In both the above cases the Insight would need to have both the AutoSwath and Multi-product features unlocked.

Concerning Seed Command: this is the concept where autoswath is used to shut off planter sections rather than sprayer sections. This requires the Seed Command module and autoswath unlock and possibly multi-product unlock. These are the same unlocks as mentioned above and are not specific to the task. In other words Autoswath is either locked or unlocked. If it is unlocked it is unlocked for any Autoswath application situation whether it is spraying, NH3, planting or harvesting. You would need the mult-product unlock if you planned on using a split planter for variety mapping or possibly chemical application or monitoring with a LCM or App Rate module.

The Seed Command module has two different output wiring harnesses. One is for the Tru-count air valve boxes which operate the Tru-count air clutches. The other is for electric clutches which are installed on many planters. Electric clutches such as you mention are supported but there is some concern about their performance. These clutches will be cycled on every end as the system shuts off the clutches whether the planter is up or down. Certain clutches may not have been designed for this frequent use and may fail.
