Subject: RE: Jeep Wrangler Front Differential

How much is "a lot of metal"? I have done a lot of differential work and it is not uncommon to find metal powder that accumulates on the magnet in the cover. It looks a lot worse than it may be. If there is no noise from the differential i wouldn't be in a hurry to have it torn down.
That being said, I have repaired differentials with less miles than this but they were noisey. No doubt to the condition of the bearings. Axles are probably the most neglected part on a vehicle. With no filtration, the only maintaince is to change the lube and it is rarely done. Considering the gear to gear nature and the bearings that will wear, lucky they last as long as they do without regular service.
