Subject: Pop up fertilizer for corn

Medford, OK
Have been planting corn for a few years now and have thought that maybe adding pop-up fertilizer would do some good for the crop. Have always tried to put on anhydrous before planting time, but have had to side dress anhydrous if we couldnt get it on before planting. Have talked around to several others that plant corn about using pop-up fertilizer. Some say its good and some say its not worth the time. One neighbor tried it last year with a brand new planter and fertilizer system and had bad results. They tried it on one field with half with pop-up and the other with none. The half with non actually produced more corn "6 bu/ac." then the side with the pop-up. He told us that he was very scientific with it when he measured and it made the yield drop. Im pretty sure he used 10-34 instead of 28. But still what would cause this to happen? This is dry land corn too. Thanks guys!
