Centre county Pennsylvania, USA | We are planning on doing emergence "home test" on bean seed before we plant our 2008 crop because bean seed sellers are all claiming bean seeds for 2008 planting have unusually low emergence scores. I've read all the Google links that describe various seed emergence test procedures, from wet towels to sand mounds, and beyond, but am not fully satisfied that any those procedures will give best (most likely) emergence scores for our farm.
Why not use dirt from field(s) that we plan on planting with bean seed to do emergence "home test" on those bean seed ? I know seed sellers can't use customer's dirt to do emergence testing but customers can. Would doing emergence "home test" using our farm's actual field dirt give best (most likely) emergence scores for our farm ?
Questions above are not directed to Ron, comments from all are welcome.
