Subject: Jay in WA & others - green bean contract

Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan
A while back Jay posted a question about planters in relation to planting green beans. The conversation got into the contract price. Jay, and any one else, if you don't mind, could you tell me a little more about the contract your processor is offering? I'm curious how in-line or out-of-line it is with what our processor is suggesting. Some of the questions would be:

Do you buy your own seed and at what price?

Do you do all of your own pesticide spraying?

Do you have to pay anything for the harvesting?

Do you have to pay anything for the trucking?

Do you have to contribute to any sort of insurance pool?

And of course it would be nice to know what per ton price they are offering.

Our seed price last year was $1.00 per 1000 seeds.
We cover all expenses for any needed pesticides.
We don't pay anything for harvesting or trucking.
We may have to contribute up to $6.00 per harvested ton for an insurance pool that would cover such costs as a grower not having his crop harvested due to excess rain at harvest of if the plant is severely backed up at harvest time.
And currently, the projected price offer is $185.00 per ton.

Thanks for your responses, gordon
