Subject: RE: shank angle

With a 43 degree shank you need to us a shovel designed for a 43 ° Shank. With the right shovel it will sit parallel to the ground. If you use a 50 degree shovel with a 43 degree shank the shovel will be tipped down 7 degrees. All shovels like sweeps are designed to run flat. The angle is measured parallel to the ground to the face of the shank.
