northeastern Ohio | Spraying inoculant over the top won't hurt anything (assuming that you are already making a sprayer pass for herbicide/fungicide/insecticide at the same time) but at this stage it is not going to help much either. You would need a rain immediately following application to carry the rhizobia down into the soil and then it will take about 7 days for nodules to form. Nitrogen fixation from these new nodules would be insignificant (compared to the soybeans plant's current need for N) for several weeks. By the time that the N fixation really kicks in, the beans will be in late stages of their life. A foliar application of N may give you the best bang for the buck at this point. I'm not saying it will pay, but if I had time I would be tempted to do half a field and compare yields this fall.
