that's a grate, behind the concaves.

A slotted grate at that...keystock grates help some, running 1200 rpm rotor and close the concave will help more as will cutting when the staw is dry...I know 100 bushel wheat can leave an enormous amount of straw...makes a guy want for a Shelbourne head even more.
