| Find an old-fashioned hardware store with some old coot working there. Ask for "hedge staples". If they don't know what they are, keep looking. They are WAY harder than the cheap Chinese metal garbage that you find at your local home-improvement store (I call them "Homeowner Hell"). If you find some, the only catch is they may be too short. I have a can of these back at the farm, not sure where Dad bought them, but would guess that it was over 40 years ago that he did. Good luck.
