Subject: RE: raising sheep

We raise Dorsets. Ours are "show sheep" but the kids manage to make money every year, so keep in mind that show sheep are not necessarily unproductive. All depends on how you manage them.

Some resources we use-

American Sheep Industry Association- www.sheepusa.org this is where you would order a copy of the Sheep Production Handbook. Great resource. A little spendy ($74) but worth every penny.

For quick answers, a book I like is Storey's Guide to Raising Sheep. Available on Amazon.

To access folks with a lot of experience that are happy to help I like the Messages forum on www.mylamb.com. This site is geared toward 4h kids and a lot of the topics pertain to showing, but if you post a question about practical sheep rearing, problems (disease, parasites, etc) you will get answers from adults with a wealth of experience.

Good luck!
