Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | I haven't heard of prices getting quite that high.......yet. I know of a little hay that changed hands here as the person who had owned it went out of business, so another broker picked it up @ an additional $35/ton for $185 FOB here. Figure $45 freight and $10 commission makes it $240 in California. If it was fancy test hay it would be even higher, there just isn't any here for sale. Fair amount around but all long ago been sold.
I think anybody that wants to buy hay here anymore has to put money up front. There are guys who can still probably buy hay on a handshake, but even they are putting money down to hold the hay. I've one whole barn that was sold in July and I haven't even heard from the buyer since then. Don't know when they will want to come get the hay, but I'm not worried as he wrote a check for 90% of the hay. I've got the check and the hay, no reason for me to carry anybody in this market. | |
