We have priced a new 12x20" CIH head ($58,000+ list) & a Clarke 16x15" head ($79,000+ list). Those kind of prices make you sit back & think.

Young farmer that farms next to some of my son's ground used a Great Plains twin row planter this year on some of his corn & beans. I walked out into his corn & wasn't that impressed though it was early. The thing I didn't like about them was that the planter dropped the seeds side by side in the rows. IMO, it would be better if it were designed to have the seeds staggered. As for beans I really can't see an advantage to the twin rows as they won't canopy much quicker than 30s.

Son's friend us to plant beans in 18" rows & his neighbor was planting in 15" rows across the fence. He said the 18s usually took another week to canopy than the 15s.
