It made a Crop |
I have a gallon jar full of them.
When I was 10 +/- years old. I collected some black beans as I was dumping wagons. The next spring I planted a small plot in the corner of our garden. I made rows and planted a white seed then a black seed. Bees cross-pollinated a few. So I ends up with few plants producing black and white seed.
The next year I planted those by them self. And they stayed true. I ended up with a gallon jar full then lost interest. Mom kept the jar full of them
I remember being at the 4-H plant science jamboree at Purdue after this experiment. One of the subjects was soybean breeding and the instructor saying soybeans don't cross-pollinate. Then I explained what I had done. He said "you must have a lot of Bees".
Back current day. I saw several black bean seeds in our RR beans this year. | |
