Subject: Killing frost on Alfalfa.

Dad has some Alfalfa that is near knee high in places. I was always told that to kill it to bale it it has to be 24 degrees for 4 hours, I beleive. Is this correct? I really hate to leave all that foliage for weevils and other insects to overwinter in. It always seems like the more we leave the more insect pressure we have in the first cutting.
