Subject: RE: Calling all Canola Experts

Rivers, MB
We grow a lot of canola in Manitoba. I would question whether the canola could stand the heat that you get but I could be wrong. Maybe some of the guys in SD or Nebraska that have tried canola would have a better idea. RR canola is probably the simplest if weeds are an issue. We tend to grow mostly Liberty tolerant canola. We aim for 35 - 40 bu/ac (1750 - 2000 lb/ac). That would require a fertility program of 120-35-15-15 of actual lb of each N P K and S. We typically plant our canola from May 5-May 15 and it is in full flower around July 1-10. That will vary though depending on how many heat units or growing degree days you get. Canola does not flower long if it is hot and dry during the flowering time. Good luck with that. We have some beautiful pics of our kids in canola fields. Any other questions, ask away.
