Northeast Louisiana | Wow, I feel for you. Our 2388 had a thrust bearing go out in front of the rotor drive pulley a couple of years ago, where the adjustable thing is. It threw bits of burning grease all over the machine and started some smoldering little fires, luckily I smelled the smoke when the combine came close to me and we put it out. In addition to two fire extinguisthers, we now keep a 3-gallon garden sprayer on board. This is actually better than the high-pressure fire extinguishers for putting out smoldering soybean fuzz. It won't blow the fire around.
I hope the insurance company treats you right. As others have said, you're probably better off that it was a total loss rather than a partial burn. Had a neighbor that had a 9600 burn in the engine compartment several years ago. They put it out. Big mistake! The insurance company made them repair it, but it was never right. Electrical problems always plauged it from then on, and for the money they spent, they could have bought a good used machine.
Good luck! | |
