Subject: 2007 wheat harvest.......

South Central Kansas
I just added up all of the bushels for wheat harvest. We cut 6049 bushels of wheat off of 807.42 planted, certified acres for a yield of 7.49 bu per acre. We actually cut about 433 acres so the yield on harvested acres was 13.96 bu per acre.

Not bragging or complaining (had good crop insurance), just telling the story of most of Eastern Kansas and Oklahoma. Without the insurance, this would have been a devastating train wreck for us. I hear there was 3 million acres of wheat not cut in Oklahoma, I can't imagine that there would be any less unharvested acres in Kansas.

On the bright side, I should harvest the crop of a lifetime of dryland corn. Other fall crops look pretty good here if they even got planted. We've had 37.1 inches of rain here from March 11 to July 12 and a couple of timely rains since. Waaayyy too much for the wheat, but great for the corn.

Hope everyone can survive another year to farm!
