Thunder Bay, Ontario, Great White North | I'm certainly no corn expert - only on our 5th year growing it, but frost hit some guys here (thankfully not me) last week, if it was as cold in the field as your yard, there will be some damage. If you are lucky, only the top few leaves and the outside rows will be affected bad, temps can be a degree or two higher a few rows in. Your corn looks about the same stage as mine - I hope your plan is to chop it for silage, or you better start hoping for a late fall. I guesstimate mine will be ready for silage around Sept 20 or so, barring any more frosts. Curious - what variety / heat unit rating is your corn? We are growing mostly 2100 - 2200 corn heat unit varieties this year, (for you Americans, that translates to 72 to 75 day corn), and I am thankful if I can get it dry enough to bag for silage before it freezes dead. The joys of farming in Northern Ontario!
