Subject: When to fertilize new alfalfa

Central Kansas
Planted 50 acres of alfalfa into bean stubble in April. Got a stand...lots and lots of grass and broadleaf stuff. 1st cut was pretty nasty....after a bit of regrowth I had it sprayed for grass with Select. This, incidently, is when the ADM nimrod also sprayed my 25 acres of brome grass. I am taking off the 2nd cutting now...some nice hay, some pretty weedy, and lots of it pretty short and puny. Had the ServiTech folks take some samples. pH okay..... but needs 135# of 11-52-0 or 150# of 18-46-0 and 15# of zinc sulfate per acre.

When do I apply this? After this 2nd cut and into the fall and winter...or wait until early spring or late winter?
