North Central Iowa | My experience came a few years ago and dealt with prevented planting two years in a row. The first year I got my final payment in February and had to pay my bill in October the previous year. The next year with a new agent, I got paid in April and had to pay my bill the previous October. It sounds good to say that you won't pay your bill if you know they owe you more than you owe them, but the rules are all in their favor. I was pretty persistent and talked to different people myself all the time, but it was a real eye opener. I tried to get interest on the money they owed me, since they would have charged me interest if I hadn't paid in October, but no dice - they pretty much have it all their way. One important thing to note is if you don't pay your premium when it is due, you can be put on a list and won't be eligible for crop insurance the next year. I definitely hope that your experience is better. Mike |
