Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Sorry to be such a whiner, but my wife and friends are tired of hearing me complain. This must be the most trying year I have ever had.
1. Excellent corn stand was killed in the Easter freeze. 2. Weather turned dry for May and June. 3. Finally received some rains in July but too late for corn. Beans and cotton look excellent. Booked several thousand bushels of $9+ beans to make up for corn losses. 4. August is hot and dry. Beans dying the field and cotton has dropped most of its "money squares" in an effort to save the plant. 5. Local newspaper ran an article this week stating it was the driest year on record (181 years) and the hottest since 1952. To top it all off, the paper took a picture of my corn for the article to show the effects of the drought. Talk about rubbing it in.
I am ready for this year to be over with...................Glad the wife went back to teaching this year.
Oh well, at least I have my family and we have our health. God bless and I hope everyone has a safe harvest. We are going to start harvesting this weekend (I hope).
