Subject: Feeding Corn Stalks

OK
I found some bales of corn stalks for $60/T and have some questions, having never fed corn stalks before. The seller says that it originally tested high in nitrates but they were told to wait and re-test; when they did so it was within acceptable ranges. Is this possible? Would you want some type of written guarantee that it isn't high in nitrates if you were the buyer? What recourse do you have if buy this hay, and subsequently lose some cows?

How palatable are corn stalks in round bales? A friend of mine (who sells me hay) says I need to have a hay grinder as they won't eat just plain stalks.

What nutrient value do corn stalks have? Am I just getting roughage with little nutrient value?

Thanks.
