West Chazy, New York | We used to bale up old brome grass for bedding. We got a Stihl electric chainsaw (we stored these bales inside). We split the bale along the top and both sides would fall apart so that you could get the grass with a pitchfork. The core was too loose for the saw to work, but most of it would split. The saw we had was expensive; several hundred dollars if I remember. We had tried a few cheap ones, and they didn't last long enough to cut one bale. This Stihl lasted for years. It also worked very well when we had to dig out a Laidig unloader in haylage that had broken the track, although that's not a memory I am particularly fond of. | |
