I really dont know what your trying to accomplish, but if your wanting to feed a little a time you can cut the strings and roll some off with a pitch fork. I good friend of mine did that for years. He would hold the bale over the feeder and just drag some off hay for the day, and then he would go to the next bunch of cows.
