Could be leptospirosis. Probably just a coincidence, but worth checking out. Unfortunately it may be too late to just vaccinate and stop it. I have seen abortion storms following routine lepto vaccination in dairy herds. It was a long time ago now, so maybe vaccine not as pure as now, but I'm still cautious. Might want to look at treating with LA oxytetracycline with your vet. Get some blood drawn on the heifers, both normal, sick and aborted for comparisons. Usually lepto titer will already have increased by the time the heifer aborts, so not as cut and dried as something like IBR where you expect to see a titer increase at least 4x between acute and convalescent titers.
