Subject: Re: Dogs chasing newly weaned calves

Fooling with weaning calves all these years I have seen about everything including having calves flatten the fences an get out. I have a neighbors dog that I worry about when he comes up to my place with my cattle around. But hes never chased my cattle so far but you always worry about it. You told your neighbor so hopefully he takes action or you will Im sure. I built a real small yard with a bright light in it so the calves cant get a run towards the fences an crowd an knock everything over an get out. IO usually block the gates with tractors at night so they cant break the gates an get out. Put over 100 head off calves in this yard an there pretty crowded but they wont get out at least they havent yet. With the weather change we had this weekend they really get spooked up. An with the cows out close by they really want mama backI usually keep them in this small yard for ten days an then turn them out to a bigger yard.
