I have had the bracket that clamps on the outside of the plastic, and would not recommend it...in fact I will avoid it at all costs. No experience with the other type. We switched the EZ steer to an older tractor with a steel column, and put an Outback in the 8300 just to avoid the bracket on the column...it pretty much destroyed the plastic in the 8300.
