Edson, Alberta, Canada | I hear you and feel about the same way. We were hit hard up here in the 2003 drought and I said if the shoe was ever on the other foot I would not take advantage of people. Had a mild drought here 3 years ago and hay prices shot up but I held my price as usual. Had all kinds of "friends". This year we have a huge amount of hay available and all these "friends" don't even know my name.
As much as it pains me to say it hay is a commodity just like any other commodity. Those markets go up and down constantly and everyone seems to adapt even if they do complain. Corn, wheat, oil, fertilizer....hell even pork bellys, the prices are in a constant state of flux. I have been told, and I am afraid that I am starting to agree, that good business practice is to "charge what the market will bear". It still rubs me the wrong way though. Regards, Dave. |
