No, dont have to worry about tearing it too much. We normall spread the stone with the truck, then come back and fine grade with a loader. Just make sure you put down enough. I highly advise putting the finer stuff on top then. If you have a vibrator roller it really does a good job. U need the fines to choke off the big stuff. The key to building a good road is to keep the water out of the ground. Thats what the finer stuff does, keeps the big stone in place and keeps water from softening your base.

Another thing I have learned is to not excavate and put the road at grade. Just lay the fabric on top the ground and go from there. This keeps the road up so that water will shed off of it. To make a nice edge so you can mow just come back with some topsoil and build up the edge. I have install dozens of these, The last one we did was put on new fill about 5 years ago, tens of thousands of loads have traveled it and it is holding fine. I just dress it up with some millings every few years.
