Subject: Re: What is the value of burnt corn from a field fire?

Dayton, IA
I bought some last fall for $1.00 per bushel because the guys insurance paid him what he thought was plenty for it so he really didn't care what he sold it for. As far as feed value, it has the same value as good corn and shouldn't affect feed performance at all so if you aren't getting any insurance payment on it, the value should be as close to #2 corn as possible. Your only problem is your market is limited so that decreases the value, but it shouldn't be worth any less from a feeding standpoint. The guy I bought it from last year waited a week after the fire to combine it and said he should have gone out right away because most of the ears had fallen off. I think he got about 1500 bu from 40 acres or so. I have empty bins if you want to haul it down here, I'll pay for the trucking and you might as well just give me the corn for free so we don't have to argue about a value for it.
