New Mexico | the Spring 012 market, or going strait cows ( double up cow calf numbers) for later 012.
Have not had many strings of P 1's yet, and do not expect many for another 2 weeks.
( bringing bout the same price as packer cows btw )
On Oct P 1 is a Nov P 2 which is generally an April calfer ( they start mid March, bulk in April, a few Mays ).
Cows from here grow bout 150 to 200 lbs going North ( just a natural deal because of more feed and more feed stimulent degree days, ie 40 to 60 degree total weather ).
Genetics are basically the same most everywhere ( Redd of UT / Ohlde ie OCC cattle of KS / Beckton of WY / Bieber of So Dak / Pharo of CO thru Stevenson Basin of MT here ).
More grass based genetics than supp feed based come thru here ( Mother Nature sorts em even though the genetics are close to the same ).
In general, one high altitude NM cow is much better than 2 TX cows. MO
Also though, I have gotten in bout half dozen loads of darn nice Black TX cows this summer ( really nice once they got some REAL groceries ).
Looking at 300 more TX Angus cows Tues, off the high country at Alpine, TX.
