southern MN | I have no experience with a built in haed chopper, but I don't chop the stalks I graze.
What happens is the fine stuff gets finer, and it all lays in a mat on the ground, when it gets wet the mat turrns into a wet mess.
Left standing, the leaves & finer stalk top will air out more, and be available for them to walk by & munch on. If it snows, there still may be some stalk & leaves sticking up for them to find an extra week. Chopped fine, it's all going to be a mush under the snow.
I think you get more out of the field if you leave it unchopped.
