If they determine it is harvestable, then silage, earlage or high moisture grain might be a better choice than dry grain.

I know I wouldn't be in a hurry to take on chopping something like that, but I'm sure there are custom outfits that have the stalk lifters on the crop dividers and could get a lot of it up and into the chopper. Probably still would be in a position to graze what's left unless nitrates are too high.

It's not likely that there are enough cows to make good use of the whole hailed on crop before it deteriorates to the point of being dangerous, so harvesting some of it, somehow, would likely be useful.
