E.Central MN | The flaw in your idea is that wheat prices are probably higher now than when he made the contract. If thats the case then he'll lose money. And that would make it difficult to sell the contract, too unless market prices tank at harvest and basis levels bail him out if crops are better than expected. If the elevator doesn't want to let him out of the deal he's in a tough spot. Yes, he could buy the wheat from someone else to fill the contract, it wouldn't be the first time someone offered to buy crop at the line of trucks going into an elevator. | |
