wcmn
I have one of these and use it only for straw and bedding the hoop barn. The first year I had it only had bales stored outside, what a pain! Now I store the bales inside and it works better. The wet part of the bale will clog in the neck. I took the first elbow off and make a staight shut out and it works better. As the above poster says it does not chop very fast. When the bale is over half way gone you have to put another one on top so the weight will help push the other one on the knives to grind it, or it will take forever to finish. I put a new set of knives in 2 years ago and they were $280 for the set. I also installed the main bearing in the grinder, was not an easy deal. This might not be the best machine for grinding hay. I still see these selling for $5000 to $6000 in our area. Not sure if they are made or not anymore.
