Subject: Re: calf housing

I used polydomes when I was raising calves and loved them. the solar gain put 30-50 pounds on the weaned calf. Could crawl in one on clean straw and take a nap myself on the worst of sunny winter days, Poly lets the sunshine disinfect it. good bottle system. Indestrucable poly buckets(unless you run over them with a combine) dont ask me how I know that. Can bang solid ice out of them easy. Hay feeder option was waste of money. But stay to the big rounds, they get sloppy inside fast enough. Small square ones arent big enough for big heifers or bull holstein calves. And bust up bad when the wind sucks one off the ground. If the wind is straight and not swirling over the top of something like a nearby building they stay put welll as it forces down on them. one person can carry or slide one anywhere. Put them under tree shade or throw a tire under back side for summer use.
