I recently built a weaned calf shelter for six calves that has worked quite well and was very cheap. It is 12 x 16 wood framed greenhouse structure with a white plastic roof and plywood sides, ends are open above 4'. Plastic cost $35. Lumber was recycled stuff I had around based on:

Do not use clear plastic as temperature swings are too much for the calves. | |
