nw NC | Yeah, I remember when some guys were crossing Holstein and Jersey back in the 70's. Thought they were going to get Holstein sized, heavy milking, high fat testing cows . What they got were small cows that milked like Jerseys and tested like Holsteins. Did not take long for them to stop that foolishness. And now it is being tried again. A.I. company rep said one herd that he sold to , bred a bunch of Holsteins with A.I. Jersey bulls.. Resulting cows were fair. When 2nd generation offspring started milking , they were disposed of quickly...poor producers. Farm is now out of business. Wonder why. | |
