Amen to those comments.............Yes, a herd of Reg. Holsteins might make more milk, but when you add up all the costs it takes to keep them there, it isn't worth it IMO. I worked for a guy who just couldn't see the big picture. I personally love the cross's, but he had to have pure's. Yeah, he was right they milked, but they had calving issues big time, foot problems out the rear, and the hoof trimmer smiled big time everytime we called him. And they seemed to have other health problems along the way so the vet was there often too. Had a few brown swiss crosses that his dad had(Also liked crosses) that were left and they gave 75% less problems than any of the holsteins and milked darn good. I never penciled it out, but I'd wager that the BS even milking less made more money than the holsteins just because of the facts I stated above, and they didn't have the calving issues either which also loose money.
