West Chazy, New York | You will probably be amazed at how deep you have to set pilings in order to get a stable base. I'm not sure how you can set them in a pond, but the usual way to set them along the coast is with a barge mounted driver, which sets them by a series of blows similar to a jackhammer. I think you should figure out a way to put one in and bolt or weld another to the top of it once you have it down most of the way. Otherwise you may find yourself trying to drive a twenty foot post. Depending on the bottom, you may be able to pour a big concrete footer and go up from that, but the real challenge is going to be trying to get something that won't sink over time. I suppose if a trackhoe can drive out to where you want the footings you should be able to get them solid. There's nothing wrong with a full floating dock anchored on shore, in fact it's easier to get into and out of a boat from one because the boat and dock will move together if the wind is blowing. | |
