Central, IA | We calve in lots. It's kind of a 3 ring deal. Cows that we think are close in a lot with access to loafing barn and concrete. Cows really close or with new calves in seperate pen with access to barn and calving pens. Once calf is a couple days old, weather permitting, they are kicked out into small pasture. We calve 45 cows and my biggest advantage is I can get them all on concrete and under a roof if I need to. That is huge for not fighting mud lots or bad weather. Figure if it is warm enough for mud, it is warm enough to keep the concrete/ barns cleaned out.
So I don't mind starting to calve in Feb in Ia. | |
