| I'm working toward the goal of keeping all of my calves as long as possible and making yearlings out of them. I sure don't feed them as much supplement as I used to. I try to give them my best hay and a little cracked corn/DDG along with trace mineral salt and mineral.
The market definitely picked up from Oct -Dec. I sold my heavy cut of Hereford steers for more both per pound and more pounds in Dec than the black baldies brought in Oct. Of course I had more into them too.
Not saying that will work every time in every year. I have plenty of hay so forage supply is not an issue and I'm trying to background them on the green side with a minimum of purchased feed. | |
