Subject: RE: Feeding Momma cows question

Northeast Misery
For cows, energy or Total Digestible Nutrients (TDN), is more important than protein. For lactating cows, feed that is ~10% CP and ~60% TDN should be sufficient. OK state or K state's web sites should have more exact numbers. Feeds high in CP are typically high in TDN also so I'd think your hay alone should do the job. If you're feeding 30% CP in the total ration, you're feeding waaaaay too much prot. (and wasting $)
